Finding Purpose: A 40-Day Journey of Faith

Today marks the beginning of yet another chapter in my life. I’m setting an intention to spend the next 40 days discovering what God says what purpose is in this world.
After diving into the introduction of Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life,” I’ve come to the realization: I might have had this whole thing wrong. The clarity and wisdom in Warren’s words have sparked a deep curiosity within me to truly understand what God has to say about purpose, meaning, and how we’re meant to live.
Why This Journey Matters
Too often, we chase after the purpose we’ve created for ourselves, forgetting to ask the most important question: What does God want for my life? Warren’s book challenges us to shift our perspective from self-discovery to God-discovery, from asking “What do I want?” to “What does God want?”
This isn’t just about reading another self-help book or going through spiritual motions. This is about genuinely seeking divine guidance and allowing God to reveal His pan for our lives.
An Invitation to Join Me
I want to extend an invitation for you to join me on this journey. Whether you’re feeling lost and confused, at your wit’s end, or simply new in your faith walk and hungry for truth, this could be exactly what you need (as I am typing this I hear LeVar Burton’s voice in my head saying “but you don’t have to take my word for it.”)
Let’s put your faith int the belief that God has all of the answers to our deepest questions. Let’s see how much we can grow and improve as people when we align ourselves with His purpose rather than our own limited understanding.
The Commitment
If you’re ready to accept this challenge, I invite you to make the same covenant that Rick Warren presents in his book:
“With God’s help, I commit the next 40-days of my life to discovering God’s purpose for my life.”
This isn’t a casual commitment- it’s a deliberate decision to seek God’s will over our own desires and preconceptions.
“ Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? Or, what shall we drink? Or, wherewithal shall we be clothes? For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore not thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is evil thereof.
Matthew 6:31-34 (emphasis added)
What’s Next
Over the next 40-days, I’ll be sharing my discoveries, struggles, and revelations as I work through Warren’s book and seek God’s guidance through prayer and reflection. I’m genuinely excited to see what unfolds and how God will speak into this process.
I am also curious to hear about your own discoveries if you decide to joint me on this journey. There’s something powerful about seeking God’s purpose in community, supporting one another as we grow in faith and understanding.
With that being said, I’m making my commitment public:
“I, Nia with God’s help, commit the next 40 days of my life to discovering God’s purpose for my life.”
The journey begins now. Let’s see what God has in store for us.
