Finding Purpose: A 40-Day Journey of Faith
Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
I’m setting an intention to spend the next 40 days discovering what God says our purpose is in this world. Not what culture says. Not what my own ambitions demands of me but what God Himself reveals about why we’re here and how we’re meant to live.
After reading the introduction to The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, I came to a humbling realization: I may have had this whole thing wrong.
The clarity and wisdom in Warren’s words sparked a deep curiosity in me, a desire to stop assuming I understood purpose and instead listen for what God actually says about meaning, direction and life.
Why This Journey Matters
So often, we chase the purpose we’ve created for ourselves, forgetting to ask the most important question of all:
What does God want for my life?
Warren’s book challenges us to shift our focus from self-discovery to God-discovery. From asking “What do I want?” to asking “What does God want?”
This journey isn’t about reading another self-help book or going through spiritual motions. It’s about intentionally seeking divine guidance and allowing God to reveal His plan for our lives instead of the one we create for ourselves.
An Invitation to Join Me
I want to invite you to walk this journey with me.
Whether you’re feeling lost or confused, at your wit’s end, or simply new in your faith and hungry for truth, this may be exactly what your heart needs. (As I type this, I can’t help but hear LeVar Burton’s voice in my head saying, “But you don’t have to take my word for it.”)
Let’s place our faith in the belief that God already holds the answers to our deepest questions. Let’s see how much clarity, peace, and growth come when we align ourselves with His purpose rather than our own limited understanding.
The Commitment
If you’re ready to accept this challenge, I invite you to make the same covenant Rick Warren presents in the book:
“With God’s help, I commit the next 40 days of my life to discovering God’s purpose for my life.”
This is a deliberate decision to seek God’s will above our own desires, assumptions, and expectations.
Jesus reminds us of this posture in Matthew 6:31-34":
“Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or wherewithal shall we be clothed?"
For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye firest the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.”
A Resource That Grounds This Decision
If you’re considering walking through tis journey alongside me, The Purpose Driven Life has already given me language and structure for questions that felt heavy and scattered.

What’s Next
Over the next 40 days, I’ll be sharing my findings, struggles, and revelations as I move through each chapter of the book and seek God’s guidance through prayer and reflective inquiry.
I would also love to hear about your discoveries if you choose to join me. There is something powerful about seeking God’s purpose in community. Supporting one another as we grow in faith and understanding.
So today, I’m making my commitment public:
“I Nia, with God’s help, commit the next 40 days of my life to discovering God’s purposes for my life.”
The journey begins now.
Let’s see what God has in store.
